Scouting Report and Outlook: Offensive development is needed, but if realized during his sophomore season, Toure can position himself as an NBA prospect. The defensive chops he showed as a freshman already make him one of the best perimeter defenders in the country. He proved it in the non-conference against Syracuse and Purdue, as well as in the Big 12, when he did a legitimately good job on Jaden Bradley, Darryn Peterson, et al. He uses his 6’9″ wingspan on defense (1.5 SPG), slides his feet, and guards for entire possessions. It’s not perfect, but it’s All-Conference-and-beyond level.

But offensively, he needs to prove himself. He shot only 31% from three and 72% from the free-throw line. Also, in terms of finishing, he needs to show more athleticism and burst at the rim. He finished only 56% at the rim and 52% on cuts, with a 27% free-throw rate (1.9 FTA per 7.1 FGA), indicating he doesn’t generate contact frequently despite getting into the paint often enough.

Now this season, as a sophomore, Toure should have sufficient opportunities to showcase offensive development and continued stout defense. He will be a leader on this Iowa State team that lost Joshua Jefferson, Tamin Lipsey, and Milan Momcilovic.
